POSITION SUMMARY:
Increase awareness among our consumers, particularly school age children, about hearing health care issues and service availability. Create marketing materials, give presentations to community groups, service providers, etc., and attend conferences and set-up displays to provide outreach and information.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Service:
• To develop and distribute information materials to school-aged children that promotes an awareness of the Canadian Hearing Society and noise induced hearing loss (NIHL)
• To assist the Canadian Hearing Society in developing and maintaining relationships with elementary schools in the Algoma District
Community Education:
• To identify and facilitate referrals of individuals with acquired hearing loss to CHS services or to other professionals or service providers in the community
• To act as a support for individuals experiencing difficulty in accessing hearing care health services.
• Conduct workshops, seminars and small group training to raise community awareness of hearing health care
Administration:
• Assist in the development of promotional materials for the Ontario Trillium Foundation Project
• Maintain accurate statistical data on community awareness activities and liaisons with community members and service providers
Professional Development:
• Work closely with the Administrative Assistant and to meet as a team with the Regional Director
• Attend all department and agency staff meetings
• Participate in internal and external professional development activities as appropriate
• Keep up to date on information and issues related to the position, the community and the agency
• Acquire and maintain ASL proficiency to the level required for the position
LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
• Reports to Regional Program Manager, Sault Ste. Marie
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Community College diploma in social services or a related discipline.
• Excellent communication skills; fluency in English, French and ASL a definite asset.
• Strong assessment and problem solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• English literacy skills; proficiency in ASL or willingness to learn
• Demonstrated sensitivity to working in a culturally diverse environment
• Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle are required
